Research has shown that up to 1 in 5 women have left their jobs due to menopause symptoms. Sadly menopause in the workplace can still be a taboo subject, with many women worrying that admitting they are ‘going through the change’ can be a sign of weakness amongst colleagues and can often hide their symptoms for fear of lack of understanding, ridicule and stigma.
Improving health and well-being in the workplace has become a priority for many employers, this is invaluable to the woman who is finding her menopause symptoms more difficult to deal with at work.
Some of the more troublesome symptoms of menopause such as hot flashes, tiredness, memory/concentration problems and loss of confidence are particularly problematic at work and it’s important for those women who are struggling with their transition into menopause to find ways to help manage these symptoms instead of considering leaving the workplace in order to find relief.
It would be great to see more companies providing education and adopting polices and procedures to help support women through this life phase.
We provide workshops in the workplace to help educate both employers and employees regarding the menopause, we discuss how the lifestyle choices we make can influence a woman’s ability to thrive and not just survive during this life phase.
We introduce the changes to the body as hormone levels fluctuate, discuss the symptoms women experience and also consider how the menopause can affect a women’s heart, bone, brain and pelvic health providing strategies to help manage and minimise these effects.
We consider…
- stress management
- Sleep hygiene
- Nutrition
- How we move and exercise
